Children are Colorado’s future, and that isn’t something we take lightly. Colorado Children First is a unique non-profit agency remaining true to its origins of providing legal aid to the families and children of Colorado. Our goal is to ensure every child in Colorado has the opportunity to reach his or her full potential. We  are devoted to:

Currently, child hearsay laws prevent parents from presenting their child’s wishes to the Court. Too often only parents who can afford expensive experts [Child and Family Investigators (CFIs) and Parental Responsibility Evaluators (PREs)] can provide access to this right.  The appointment of a CLR should be a right afforded to all children in custody matters, especially in matters where their safety is at issue.

A CLR

(Child’s Legal Representative) must be an attorney and may be appointed to represent the best interests of a child by the Court when at least one of the parents qualifies as indigent.​

Child advocacy

Child advocacy refers to a range of individuals, professionals and advocacy organizations who speak out on the best interests of children. An individual or organization engaging in advocacy typically seeks to protect children’s rights which may be abridged or abused in a number of areas.

Become a CCF Attorney

There are many ways attorneys can provide free or low-cost legal services for families CCF serves. Attorneys can claim pro bono hours for any fees they’d have charged above Colorado Children First pays.

  • Draft 14-10-119 Rose motion: $200
  • Draft motion to restrict: $200
  • Represent client in motion to restrict hearing: $500.
  • Draft Complaint for protection order and all supporting docs: $200
  • Represent client in TPO: $200
  • Represent client in PPO: $500 (same fee if court converts protection order to motion to restrict):

CFI/Child Legal Representative Services. Are you interested in doing CLR work but not yet trained as a CFI or GAL? No problem! We can train and mentor you!

  • $800 for CFI/CLR investigation concerning immediate endangerment concern. (Includes drafting report and testimony fee.
